This is the lower end of Kensington Church Street in London. The buildings are all distinct, varied, taller than wide, the right height – 4 stories, articulated roof line, richly detailed. Plane trees overhang the street. There is some sign clutter, mainly due to the rental signs. This grouping of buildings offer a great contrast to the monolithic modern building that terminates the scene.
But what in the hell happened to the building where the Pizza Hut is? Was the original bombed during the war? Did it fall down? Were the air-rights not available to go higher? Did some bizarre planning law demand that a two story box be built? It is a horrible blight on the block, not even considering the “food” being served within.
