The title sounds brutal, but it really just says that dense, long-lasting cities use space in very efficient ways.  The example above is charming proof:  under the porch of the Cotorna Theatre is a small shop.  In dense cities, nothing that could be used is ignored.  In the US, however, we go in the opposite direction:  if there is something that can be wasted, it will be.
